What is the best way to remove the stem of a wine glass safely and smoothly with out costly tools?
I dont want to buy a glass cutter and simply breaking them off and leaving a sharp edge is no good either.
Zowar has the right idea, but instead of using a lighter, use some cotton string rubbed with wax. Wrap the wax coated string where you want the glass to break. light it, and let it burn for about 30 secs. Run the glass under tap water. It will break where the string was. Be sure to hold the glass upside down while the string is burning to keep the heat off of the glass bell.
